11 September 2019

SONI has launched ‘Tomorrow’s Energy Scenarios Northern Ireland 2019 Consultation.’ Consultation invites views on a range of credible pathways for Northern Ireland’s clean energy transition, with specific focus on what this means for the electricity system over the next thirty years and beyond.

Considering possible future energy scenarios is essential to allow SONI to plan the development of the electricity transmission grid to meet the future needs of society

Consultation runs from Wednesday September 11th, 2019 to Wednesday November 6th 2019.

This is the first time SONI has undertaken this work and our scenarios will be reviewed every two years to include new information.

Considering possible future energy scenarios is essential to allow SONI to plan the development of the electricity transmission grid to meet the future needs of society. An essential part of this is receiving insights from stakeholders from across Northern Ireland.

Jo Aston, Managing Director of SONI, said: “We are very pleased to formally launch the consultation on SONI’s Tomorrow’s Energy Scenarios.

“Considering possible future energy scenarios is essential to allow SONI to plan the development of the electricity transmission grid to meet the future needs of society.

“Gathering input from stakeholders from across Northern Ireland is a central part of this process, and I would encourage everyone with an interest to provide a response to the consultation.

“At SONI we’re very proud of our world-class, innovative approach to grid development and technology. We look forward to working closely with all our stakeholders to deliver a safe, secure and reliable electricity supply in Northern Ireland now and in the future.”
