September 2020

The Sydenham Road Substation Project has been granted planning permission by the Belfast City Council.

This project will help strengthen and increase the capacity of the grid within the Belfast Harbour and Belfast City Centre areas. This will help facilitate continued economic growth, attract investment and enable job creation.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to get involved in the consultation and submitted feedback. This process is an important part of our approach.

In the coming weeks, we will continue to work closely with all stakeholders before formally handing the project to NIE Networks for construction.

April 2019

SONI has now completed the consultation phase of the Sydenham Road Substation Project. We would like to thank all that attended our consultation in March.

We evaluate all the feedback we receive and try our best to develop the project around your views.

It is intended that a planning application for the project will be submitted to Belfast City Council in Q2 2019.

After submission of the application, members of the public will also have the opportunity to submit their views directly to the Council.

March 2019

We will be holding a public consultation for the proposed Sydenham Road Substation Project on Thursday 14 March at the Titanic Hotel Belfast between 12pm and 3pm and 5pm and 8pm.

The consultation event is a ‘drop-in’ session and provides an opportunity for the public to view SONI’s plans and discuss them with members of its project team before any planning application is submitted.
